Food Systems Solutions Hubs

The PFSVN Vision for 2050 is that the Treaty Peoples of the Prairie region have reconciled their relationships, restored the land, and established healthy, equitable, and sustainable food systems. To help make this vision a reality, we are developing Food Systems Solutions Hubs.

Solutions hubs (often called Innovation Labs) were developed to solve complex challenges, like transforming food systems. This approach is being used increasingly around the world as a means of helping people build collaborative approaches to solving problems.  We are developing solution hubs to create spaces at the community, provincial, Treaty or regional level to focus and sustain creative attention to identify challenges and solutions.

  • Community Dialogue on Food Sovereignty,  Lac La Biche, Alberta - the goal of the Solutions Hub is to engage various people involved in the local food system in ways that may not have happened before to identify and fund projects that could catalyze change in the food system as we know it. The conversation at this gathering will be around all aspects of food from growing, supplying, accessing, using, and waste created and how we can try new methods, projects, ideas to have a more just and equitable food system in the region.

  • Food Sovereignty on the Prairies 2050 - the goal is to determine how the PFSVN can support food sovereignty initiatives into the future and identify solutions to fund. We will invite all Food Systems Microgrants Program applicants, funded and unfunded, to participate. Up to  47 organisations from across the Prairies will be represented.  The food hub will be convened Winter 2024.

  • PFSVN Regional Food Systems Hub - ReconciliACTION on the Prairies - the goal is to identify next steps for the PFSVN in our six action areas to achieve our 2050 Vision -  The Treaty Peoples of the Prairie region have reconciled their relationships, restored the land, and established healthy, equitable, and sustainable food systems.  We will bring together our network of contacts, Food Systems Microgrants Programs participants and leading figures in the food sovereignty movement from across the Prairies.  The food hub will be convened in the Spring of 2024

The Food System Solutions Hub Pilot project is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. As a member of the LIFT Network, we are one of five organizations undertaking similar pilot projects from across the globe.
